Pelican Rouge coffee

From sourcing to roasting, blending to serving, Pelican Rouge coffee is founded upon a rich heritage of experience and expertise.

A rich heritage

Our story

The Pelican Rouge coffee story began in Antwerp in 1863, when Joseph van Leckwijck and his sons established a coffee roastery and started producing high quality yet affordable coffee that could be widely enjoyed. As one of the first people in Europe to trade this type of coffee, his passion, commitment and innovative thinking still drives us 150 years on.

Becoming part of Selecta in 2017, we still have our own roastery in Dordrecht, Netherlands. With a passion for great tasting coffee, we have specialists that travel from Central America to the Far East to find the freshest, highest quality coffee beans.

All of our craftspeople - blenders, roasters, baristas, purchasers and research and development experts, apply this inherited knowledge to every single gram of coffee we produce.

We also understand that times and tastes change, and our research and development team continues to develop, source and create new products to enhance consumers coffee experience.

We recognise our responsibilities to both the environment and local communities.

Our coffees are sourced from more than 20 countries around the world, and are proud that almost 50% of our coffee is already certified (Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, UTZ). We are striving to increase this further.

By consciously choosing certified products, we help ensure sustainability for our clients and future generations.

Locally we continue to strive for even more environmentally friendly packaging and all of our packaging has been aluminium-free since 2003.

Each Pelican Rouge blend represents our rich history and is the result of creativity, craftsmanship and attention to detail.
