Setting another milestone in the 100-year old partnership with Societe Nationale des Chemins de fer Francais (SNCF), Selecta secured a large order to provide vending services at bigger SNCF railway stations. Starting September, Selecta will install a total of 2,150 brand-new vending machines in no less than 819 stations of SNCF's network. "This is the most important order ever for Selecta France and, in fact, for the whole Selecta Group", highlights Group CEO Remo Brunschwiler. "It reflects the trust that the Gares et Connexions, a branch of SNCF puts in our capability to deliver first-rate solutions in a passenger service area that is gaining in importance," adds Brunschwiler.

Tender won against stiff competition

Covering a period of ten years, the award of this highly sought-after contract confirms Selecta's position as the undisputed leader in the European vending market. Various factors have contributed to winning this tender. Firstly, Selecta disposes of a unique expertise on public environments that enables it to determine the best-designed and secured points of sales. Secondly, SNCF knows its passengers will find the items they look for in a vending machine: Selecta has a thorough knowledge of consumers' needs due to the surveys and analysis it carries out ona regular basis. The win also reflects Selecta's unbeatable service quality showing, for example, in a daily refilled automates, the reactivity at peak times or technical maintenance. Finally, it is Selecta's capacity to create innovative and developable concepts that persuaded SNCF.

Transforming the vending business

Consumers will profit from the new vending machines from a visual as well as a convenience perspective: visually, as the new automates will feature an attractive design with a see-through glass displaying a larger range of products. Regarding convenience, a new standard will be set along the whole buying process based on digital and e-connected technologies: digital screens, real-time refunds, connections to My Selecta apps, contactless payment methods complementing traditional ones, and functionalities will provide for a unique consumer experience.

This experience will be deepened by a major improvement in ergonomics. Products will be dispensed at the comfortable height of 1 meter with the flap opening automatically. The same is true for change. So cumbersome bending down to collect change or opening the flap with just one hand will all be things of the past.

The new generation of machines will underline Selecta's ability to transform the traditional vending business into a fully interactive concept that is aligned with new, e-connected consumer behaviors. Last but not least, Selecta operates the best security systems in the market. This minimizes damages from vandalism, ensuring that consumers find a working vending machine whenever they long for a snack or beverage.
