Tom Martin recieves £200 to do 'something special' Tom Martin is a good family friend of Mark Purnell our London Regional Manager. Tom is just 16 and last year he was diagnosed with a rare tumour behind his eye. This has been devastating news for Tom and his family and Mark felt the need to support them through this difficult time. Last year Mark took part in a half marathon on Tom's behalf and raised £450 of which most was donated by Selecta employees. Mark also applied for funding on Tom's behalf through Selecta in the Community. Selecta is proud to provide Tom with £200 so when he feels stronger he can do something 'normal' and hopefully a bit special. Tom is looking forward to a well deserved holiday on completion of all his treatment and says, "I've been totally overwhelmed by everyone's kindness and generosity, it really means a lot. I don't know what else to say other than this is a really difficult time for me and my family and this really makes a difference." The Shepshed Alley Group can now purchase specialist equipment Quality Auditor, Andrew Meller's son is 14 and has autism (Aspergers Syndrome). For the past 18 months he has attended the Shepshed Alley Group in Leicestershire which is a special youth group for 12-18 year olds with physical, mild learning or social difficulties. Andrew's son enjoys being given the opportunity to socialise and join in games, trips and activities in a supportive in a supportive environment the group provides. The Shepshed Alley Group is not a registered charity and has to fund its own resources. Much of the equipment is designed to be used by children/youths with additional needs and therefore is quite expensive. Selecta is proud to support the group to buy specialist games and equipment for their members to enjoy a broader range of activities.
