By working together we scooped a coveted Green Apple Award, an international campaign to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice. Andy Mee, Managing Director for Selecta in the UK and Ireland, Southern Sales Manager Chris Koplick and Key Account Manager Paul Kemp recieved a copy of the award on Selecta's behalf at a specially-arranged ceremony held at Land Securities Trillium's Head Office in Aldersgate, London.

Sustainable approach

We have been rewarded after introducing a number of eco-friendly and sustainable initiatives as part of the vending offer Selecta  provides to Land Securities Trillium at sites it outsources to the Department of Working Pensions (DWP) in the UK.

 "We offer many sustainable vending solutions to our clients as standard and Land Securities Trillium has always been keen to embrace these wherever possible," explains Chris Koplick. "Since 2003, we've worked closely to consistently develop the vending offer at each DWP site."

In 2007/2008 we agreed a series of objectives to improve the service further, including reducing waste, promoting the importance of health, reducing our carbon footprint and procuring products from an ethical source.

One of the key features if our sustainable approach has been the use of recycled vending equipment, with 80 per cent of Selecta's machines across the DWP estate being recycled. This has been made possible by our long standing partnership with vending equipment recycling and repair specialist Excalibur which revamps our old vending units.

We offer a range of healthy products within their Balance Options programme, which fit pre-set nutritional requirements. Every quarter we introduce new Balance Options products within our promotional programmeand roll these out across the DWP sites to keep the healthy product offering refreched.

The issue of reducing carbon emissions is being addressed. We will be introducing our Tour Optimisation Programme hich will reduce the amount of 'vending miles' travelled between DWP sites by our merchandisers.
