We have supported another three employee projects as part of Selecta in the Community; Cranstoun Community Drug Agency, CUPI and When You Wish Upon a Star.<<
We are proud to support our local community, especially projects which are close to our employee’s hearts.
Communities United, Promoting Inclusion (CUPI)
Selecta supported CUPI, a community group based in South Lanarkshire. Angela Black, Merchandiser (Scotland) for Selecta, is a volunteer for the group, who provide learning based play and activities, guidance and support for children and young people to help them interact and feel part of their community.
CUPI is directed towards addressing issues of anti-social behaviour due to operating in an area with a high crime rate and drug misuse. There has been a visible decline in incidence of anti-social behaviour since the project started.
As a voluntary organisation, CUPI rely solely on donations and fundraising; Selecta’s donation will help the group continue to provide this much-needed service to the community.
When You Wish Upon a Star
Mike Watson, Business Development Manager for Selecta, competed in Coast to Coast, a 2 day, 94 mile race across Scotland by foot, bike and boat to raise money for local charity When You Wish Upon a Star. The charity grants ‘wishes’ for critically ill children, providing them with anything from books and toys, the opportunity to meet their favourite celebrity or a day trip or holiday abroad.
The charity has launched ‘The Spirit of Christmas Lapland Appeal’ to raise funds to take critically ill children to visit Father Christmas in Lapland. This once-in-a-lifetime experience includes an adventure playground, snowmobile and sleigh rides as well as skiing and sledging.
Selecta’s donation and all additional funds raised by Mike for the race will contribute towards the cost of transport for the children and their carers to enjoy the trip to Lapland, providing a welcome break from their medical treatment and a positive experience for children whose future may be uncertain.
Cranstoun Community Drug Agency (CDA)
A close family member of Alison Pickford, Assistant Management Accountant for Selecta, is a member of Cranstoun CDA in Reading. Cranstoun is a non-profit charity offering specialist support and advice for those recovering from drug and alcohol related issues. They offer a range of services from relapse prevention and drug and health awareness to support groups, leisure activities and aftercare.
Selecta is pleased to support Cranstoun as the services they provide are vital to help people rebuild their lives though recovery and preparing them for employment, education or training.
Simi Warah, Service Manager at Cranstoun CDA, said “We would like to thank everyone at Selecta UK for choosing us. As a government-funded charity, sometimes our budget can be quite tight. Your donation will help so much! Thanks from all of the staff and service users.”
As part of Our Sustainable Approach we are supportive of community initiatives, both locally and globally, and also support activity undertaken by our supply chain.
