SWITCH TO PAY VEND WITH A PREMIUM COFFEE VENDING MACHINE

Jonathan Barr, Sales & Marketing Director, Selecta UK, explains how to make the transition from free vend to pay vend with a smooth one with a premium coffee vending machine.

Did you know, companies give away £144m worth of free coffee every year†? With the current economic climate putting the squeeze on budgets, more and more companies are looking at ways to cut their costs. This can be achieved by switching your current free vend to pay vend by offering great tasting coffee from a premium coffee vending machine.

Whether you are looking to convert some or all of your coffee vending machines to pay vend, the greatest challenge is minimising any adverse employee or consumer reaction. Simply putting a price tag on your current coffee vending offerings may cause resentment, but by adding value, companies can introduce a successful pay vend facility.

High street coffee shops have set the standard for the on the go hot drink market and raised consumers expectations. By combining competitive pricing, premium quality and a delivery from premium coffee vending machines that mirrors that of the high street, pay vend can be successful.

Bringing Great Coffee to the Workplace In order for pay vend to be successful, employees must feel they are getting something more for their money and there are a number of ways to achieve this. Firstly, a simple tea and black or white coffee from a coffee vending machine offering won’t do, especially with pay vend! Consumers look for speciality coffees to treat themselves when out of home and to justify that price tag. Coffee vending facilities must recreate the high street coffee shop experience with high quality lattes and cappuccinos if they are ever going to be able to compete.

In a recent trial, Selecta set out to achieve just this on behalf of one of its clients when it combined its own premium bean to cup coffee brand, miofino, with real milk*. It was delivered in a bigger, 12oz cup with sip lid, from its premium coffee vending Grande Milano machine - much like consumers are used to on the high street.

The results were incredibly positive with 67% of consumers saying they would be willing to pay for miofino served from the Grande Milano! Selecta’s coffee brand miofino also out-sold an established Italian coffee brand 3:1 and 75% of employees preferred miofino latte from the Grande Milano coffee vending machine with one employee stating. “[miofino is] Good value especially compared to the big high street brands.”
